SONGS FROM A WINDOW

(CD)
“Matt Watts’ third album puts him succinctly in that same folky calibre as a young Dylan or a perpetually young Nick Drake.” OOR

“This has created intimate and poetic songs in which the character is defined by folk guitars, a slide guitar, and the frugal use of bass. Beautiful.” RifRaf

“Songs from a Window allows us to witness the blossoming of a major talent. It is a breathtakingly beautiful album.” Go for Music

“Matt Watts doesn’t make music for hipsters. His work is far too timeless and organic for that. But if you’re someone who loves talented troubadours, you can’t go wrong with Songs from a Window.” Cobra

Matt Watts (1987–2024) was an American folk singer born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a spiritual family with Cherokee roots in the Carolinas, where he spent his childhood, already destined to be uprooted by his father’s calling to the ministry. He has lived in over seven different states, including a year in Paris, France. It was at the age of fifteen, in the mountains of Montana along the Missouri River, that he began recording his songs, organizing local concerts, and touring the Northwest.

His album Songs From A Window was a return to folk music. Beginning with the ballad “Leonard Peltier,” about a Native American man believed to have been wrongfully convicted of murder—songs written about a land transfigured and a people who have been scattered. As captured in the song "You Will Know Him," For you will know him as you know me. Not one stone upon another will I keep.

Songs From A Window is an album recorded in the early folk tradition but with a contemporary alt-folk feel, relying solely on timbre and song. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Joan Giménez Flores (Bobonne Records) and mastered by Staf Verbeeck (Deus, Calexico) at Stiff Studio.
