Matt Watts (1987–2024) released his 5th album, Queens, in early 2020, just before the COVID lockdown. It was produced by Stef Kamil Carlens and Nicolas Rombouts and features members (& ex-members) of acclaimed Belgian bands such as Moondog Jr, Zita Swoon, Eriksson Delcroix, Dez Mona, Guido Belcanto, and KING DICK. The album also features guest performances by American artists Jim White and the late Sandy Dillon.

Matt Watts on Queens:
“Queen's bar was a small bar in the neighborhood of Saint-Gilles in Brussels I used to frequent often while writing this album. I remember that the owners used to hang up birthday party streamers and flags every night in anticipation of their many wild regulars. At some point, I even started to believe it was all for me. I would often make long walks back to my apartment in the North in reflection of my nights there. I admit, most of the time because I was too broke to afford a taxi.

The songs are centered around my experiences out in Brussels with certain people. Everybody here is from somewhere, and everybody here has a story. And, as one often does, I became a part of theirs, and they of mine. Songs about friends long gone, lovers, dancers, junkies… I wanted to write to them all, and I did.”

Matt Watts is an American songwriter and performer from Montana who has lived in Antwerp and Brussels since 2007. He is the son of a Catholic priest and a mother with Cherokee roots in the Carolinas.

He has worked and performed with Zita Swoon Group on their production The Ballad of Erol Klof (2016), became a rotating member of Rudy Trouvé's I H8 Camera, formed The Calicos as a one-time backing band, and worked with many artists and songwriters (including Emilíana Toríni & The Colorist, The Love Substitutes, etc.), touring non-stop and releasing various widely acclaimed solo albums.
