Who am I beneath everything I inherited?

Long before the music was finished, this question became the thread that quietly wove itself through pages of poems, reflections and fragments, eventually becoming ‘Ventus in Anima’. Titled after the closing piece and meaning "wind of the soul," the album is a journey through the stories we inherit, the beliefs that shape us and the long path of returning to what remains beneath them.

With ‘Ventus in Anima’, GiGi FM expands her sonic language through dub-infused electronics, immersive sound design, layered vocal compositions and fi eld recordings. Throughout the album, her voice becomes both instrument and storyteller, moving between spoken word, whispered mantras and melody, while warm Rhodes, spacious chords, evolving percussion and deep basslines create a world suspended somewhere between memory, movement and meditation.

‘Origo’ opens the album as an ambient dub meditation, asking what remains of us beneath the stories we inherit before we have the chance to choose our own. Emerging from spacious dub textures and heavyweight dub reggae rhythms, ‘La Verità’ asks whether truth can ever exist independently of the beliefs through which we have learned to see the world. ‘Do You Know’, driven by broken rhythms, 90s-inspired synths and gliding vocal lines, confronts the comfort of silence, asking what happens when those who know remain silent, what we choose not to see, and how easily complicity disguises itself as neutrality.

With growling dub basslines and driving rhythms, ‘On My Way’ marks the moment movement becomes a choice. ‘Ascenda’, inspired by the myth of Astraea, celebrates the courage to rise above the chaos without losing sight of who we are. Suspended in spacious dub textures, ‘Cerca Waves’ drifts through travel, time and memory, where movement becomes a way of understanding. ‘Cerca Napoli’ returns to family, roots and the landscapes that continue to shape us, weaving together warm dub chords, intimate vocals and fi eld recordings.

‘Life's Special Dream’ becomes a meditation on the quiet beauty of fl eeting moments, where fi eld recordings and layered vocals weave together memory, family and home. It reminds us that while time never stands still, there are moments that continue to live within us long after they have passed. The closing piece, ‘Ventus in Anima’, settles into acceptance ~ a quiet return to something deeper, more instinctive and more essential within ourselves.

‘Ventus in Anima’ is an invitation to keep listening ~ to the stories we carry, the truths we inherit and the quiet voice beneath them all. It reminds us that returning to ourselves is rarely a destination, but a lifelong practice of remembering who we were before the world told us who to be.
